PNA Group, abbreviated PNA. was founded in 1981, in The Netherlands, under the name Nijssen Adviesbureau Voor Informatica bv. The activities really commenced in 1989 when prof Sjir Nijssen, the founder of PNA, decided to leave his full-time position of professor of Computer Science at the University of Queensland. His aim was to fund his own research and development, in the area of knowledge engineering based on predicate logic, fact orientation and natural language, with the help of profits generated from knowledge engineering projects performed for customers. PNA as of January 2008 employs 56 people in Knowledge Engineering and Software Development and Research and bachelor education. PNA has a fully owned subsidiary, PNA Training B.V.; it employs 11 people.

In 2006 PNA Training received the first accreditation by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Council for a Bachelor degree fully integrated and based on a predecessor of SBVR (fully integrated implies that all subjects are expressed in concept definitions, fact types, fact type forms and rules). The didactical approach is currently being described in BPMN+SBVR, using statements of guidance.

PNA Training offers since the beginning of 2008 in its accredited bachelor education the subjects SBVR 101, 102, 103 and 104. PNA Training offers since summer 2008 a business process subject, BPMN 101; this is a combination of business processes, ontologies and rules, solidly based on semantic modelling, a natural language and predicate logic based combination of BPMN and SBVR.

Successful solutions have been developed in different areas including knowledge engineering for business, and personnel management systems marketed by the NYSE listed company ADP. The company has established a solid customer base. PNA works with partners and research institutions and has built a unique network of know-how with regard to knowledge engineering based on semantics, fact orientation and the OMG’s BPMN+SBVR. PNA provides technologies that allow the creation, adaptation, and integration ontologies with semantic models and relational database systems.
