From ONTORULE Show Case

The CTIC Foundation (Centre for the development of information and communication Technologies in Asturias, based in Gijón) is a non-profit private organization, constituted in 2004 by a group of firms the Information and Technologies field, and the support of the government of the Principality of Asturias (Spain). The group has experience in several national and EU-funded research projects (e.g. FP6 Freight-wise). CTIC is an active agent in the industrial development of Asturias, performing technological transferring from academia to industry. In this line, CTIC has recently agreed to be the Spanish STI2 office. Currently, its R&D Department is working in several projects related with the real application of semantic technologies in different domains like e-government, insurance sector and steel industry (with ArcelorMittal). The primary research focus of the Semantic Technologies Unit of CTIC R&D Department is knowledge-based software, so their projects cover a wide range of semantic web research topics: semantic search, ontology development and visualization, semantic web services and user contextualization.

Since 2003, CTIC Foundation hosts the Spanish W3C Office, and 8 members of its staff are active in different W3C working groups. Among those, CTIC participates in RIF (Rule Interchange Format) and SWD (Semantic Web Deployment) working groups. Therefore, another major activity of CTIC is standards promotion and company consulting.
